The Grand Lodge wants to give Maryland Masons the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of Masonry and recognize the best in Masonic writing. Accordingly, the Grand Lodge Committee on Masonic Education has created this Masonic Essay Contest.
Contestants will write and submit an essay on one of these Masonic themes:
*History
*Biography
(Maryland Masons preferred)
*Philosophy
*Symbolism
A panel of three Masonic scholars ( Bros. Brent Morris, Dirk Wiker, Christopher Hodapp) will judge the essays based on Masonic CONTENT, CLARITY of writing, and DOCUMENTATION (if necessary). The judges will not know the names of the contestants. The essay titles and authors of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced and the 1st place winner published in the Free State Freemason.
One must be a Maryland Mason to participate in this contest. The panel of judges are excluded.
Essays should be 1300-2000 words in length, in Microsoft Word format.
Submitted files should include “GLM Essay Contest” in the subject line and should be submitted to davidrs1818@gmail.com by date October 1, 2022.
Winners will be announced by November 1, 2022 and appropriate prizes distributed soon thereafter. This contest is underwritten by a generous donation from Mrs. Rosemary Taylor, Realtor.
Submissions become the property of the Grand Lodge of A.F.& A.M. of Maryland.
